Trump to visit China in April, touts ‘extremely strong’ after Xi call

U.S. President Donald Trump touted relations with China as “extremely strong” following a phone call with Chinese leader Xi Jinping on November 24. During the call, Xi told Trump that Taiwan’s “return to China” is a key part of Beijing’s vision for the world order. Taiwan Premier Cho Jung-tai rejected this, saying a “return” to China is not an option for the island’s 23 million people. The hour-long call covered topics including Ukraine, fentanyl, and U.S. farm products. Trump accepted Xi’s invitation to visit Beijing in April and invited Xi for a state visit to the U.S. later this year. The call followed their South Korea meeting three weeks prior.
