China beauty exports surge as brands go global

China’s cosmetics exports are rapidly expanding, with October volumes reaching 132,200 tons — five times the import volume of 26,500 tons, according to latest customs data. From January to October, export value rose 10.7% YoY to 46.25 billion RMB ($6.4 billion), while import values declined 0.8% despite volume growth. The surge reflects Chinese beauty brands’ growing overseas success. Companies like Winona and Florasis have entered Southeast Asian markets with competitively priced, differentiated products, supported by China’s flexible supply chain. Meanwhile, falling import values indicate shifting domestic preferences, as Chinese consumers increasingly prioritize ingredient efficacy and value over traditional brand prestige.
