Estée Lauder’s luxury skincare brand La Mer has initiated a trademark infringement lawsuit against seven Chinese cosmetics manufacturers and individuals, including Guangzhou Fuda Cosmetics Factory and Guangzhou Aoyan Cosmetics Co. The Hainan Free Trade Port Intellectual Property Court approved pretrial asset preservation measures, freezing approximately 20 million RMB ($2.8 million) in assets from four manufacturers and an individual, plus an additional 5 million RMB ($700,000) from three other companies. The case represents one of the highest compensation claims in recent Chinese cosmetics litigation history. The lawsuit reflects increasing efforts by international beauty giants to protect their brands in China against counterfeiting, particularly on social commerce platforms where fake La Mer products have been sold at deeply discounted prices.
