German footwear company Birkenstock Holding will acquire its Australian distributor, Birkenstock Australia, through subsidiary Birkenstock International Asia. The transaction is expected to be finalized by month’s end. Founded in the 1990s and owned by the Goerke family, Birkenstock Australia operates two Melbourne retail stores, one Sydney partner store, and an e-commerce platform. The distributor employs approximately 60 people and maintains a wholesale network of over 300 commercial partners, reporting annual turnover of 88.6 million Australian dollars ($59 million). Marcel Goerke will remain as Managing Director during the transition. The acquisition marks Birkenstock’s latest effort to consolidate direct control over international distribution.
