Chinese car brands capture 5.4% European market share in August

Chinese automakers doubled sales in Europe in August, securing 5.4% market share for the fourth consecutive month above 5%. Dataforce data shows plug-in hybrid sales surged 1,271% and full hybrids rose 190%, marking a strategic shift from battery-electric vehicles following EU tariffs. MG sales increased 46%, BYD jumped 230% with expanded plug-in hybrid offerings, and Chery recorded 471% growth. Chinese brands sold 430,650 units in Europe through August, up 74% YoY, solidifying their position in the competitive market.
