Hong Kong tourism surges during National Day holiday
Hong Kong experienced a significant tourism rebound during the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, with mainland Chinese visitors reaching 877,000 in the first four days, a 7% increase YoY. International visitors showed stronger growth at 126,000, representing over 30% YoY increase. The surge contributed to improved retail performance, with August retail sales recording their largest increase in 20 months. The government is pursuing a “mega events plus tourism” strategy, including themed tours and enhanced infrastructure to sustain momentum.
