Gucci, Balenciaga data ransomed by cybercriminals

Cybercriminals have stolen private details of potentially millions of Balenciaga, Gucci and Alexander McQueen customers in an April attack on parent company Kering. The stolen data includes names, e-mail addresses, phone numbers, addresses and total spending amounts at luxury stores worldwide. The hacker group Shiny Hunters claims to have data linked to 7.4 million unique e-mail addresses and contacted Kering in June demanding Bitcoin ransom. Kering confirmed the breach, disclosed it to data protection authorities, and e-mailed affected customers. No financial information like card details were stolen. The breach occurred during a wave of attacks on luxury brands including Cartier and Louis Vuitton.
