Louis Vuitton will shut down its first chocolate store in China, located at Qiantan Taikoo Li in Shanghai, on August 10. The closure was confirmed by the brand’s customer service. No reason or relocation plans were disclosed. Opened in July 2023, Le Chocolat Maxime Frédéric at Louis Vuitton was the brand’s third global chocolate boutique after Paris and Singapore. Its products, priced from 240 RMB ($33), were designed by Michelin pastry chef Maxime Frédéric and quickly gained popularity as “LV’s most affordable luxury item.” Speculation online suggests the store was intended as a temporary pop-up or closed due to high local pricing. The closure comes amid surging global cocoa prices pressuring chocolate makers worldwide.
