Buoyed by Hermès' strong stock market performance, the Hermès family has taken the top spot on the 2025 French rich list published by Challenges magazine, ending Bernard Arnault and his family’s dominance since 2017. The Hermès family’s total wealth has reached 163 billion euros ($176.5 billion), significantly surpassing the Arnault family’s 117 billion euros ($126.7 billion). The shift is largely attributed to Hermès' resilient stock price since the beginning of 2025, which pushed its market capitalization above that of LVMH. The Hermès family currently owns approximately two-thirds of the company’s shares. Meanwhile, the Arnault family’s fortune dropped sharply by 74 billion euros ($80.1 billion) over the past year due to fluctuations in LVMH’s share price.
