Meta has acquired just under a 3% stake in EssilorLuxottica, the world’s largest eyewear maker and parent company of Ray-Ban, in a deal worth approximately 3 billion euros ($3.5 billion), according to sources familiar with the matter. The move signals Meta’s growing investment in the fast-expanding smart glasses sector. The acquisition strengthens an ongoing partnership between the two companies, which have jointly launched several AI-powered eyewear products since 2021, including Ray-Ban and Oakley smart glasses. Meta is reportedly considering increasing its stake to around 5%, though plans are not yet finalized.
