U.S. apparel retailer Abercrombie & Fitch reported strong Q1 sales, with particularly robust performance from its Hollister brand, driving shares up 15% to close at $88.47 on Wednesday. Total net sales rose 8% YoY to $1.1 billion, with comparable sales up 4%. Net profit fell to $80.4 million, down from $113.9 million a year earlier. The company now forecasts full-year sales growth of 3% to 6%, up from a previous estimate of 3% to 5%. Hollister’s sales surged 22% to $549.4 million, while sales at the Abercrombie & Fitch brand declined 4% to $547.9 million. The company expects the Abercrombie brand to return to growth in the second half of the year.
