Fashion brands welcome US-China tariff agreement

Fashion brands and retailers have welcomed the 90-day U.S.-China tariff reduction agreement announced on May 12, which lowers U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods from 145% to 30% and Chinese tariffs on U.S. goods from 125% to 10%, effective today. While providing short-term relief, industry groups remain cautious, warning that remaining tariffs still pose a significant burden — particularly for smaller companies. The fashion sector continues to face uncertainty due to fragile supply chains, inflationary pressures, and the end of the U.S. “de minimis” exemption. Many brands are using the temporary reprieve to ship goods quickly.
