US cuts China parcel tariff to 54% in trade war cooling

The U.S. has announced it is cutting the tariff on small parcels sent from mainland China and Hong Kong to the U.S. from 120% to 54%. Donald Trump signed an executive order more than halving the levy, which had closed the “de minimis” loophole allowing goods valued up to $800 to enter the U.S. duty-free. The tax reduction follows a 90-day pause in the U.S.-China trade war and will benefit Chinese e-commerce platforms like Shein and Temu. The alternative flat fee of $100 will remain but will not rise to $200 in June as planned.
