ByteDance’s Zhang Yiming tops Hurun’s China rich list with $60B

The Hurun Research Institute has released its 2025 Global Rich List, featuring 3,442 billionaires from 71 countries — a 5% increase from last year. In China, ByteDance founder Zhang Yiming is the country’s richest individual with 435 billion RMB ($60 billion). Tencent’s Pony Ma ranks third with 320 billion RMB ($44 billion). Xiaomi’s Lei Jun saw the fastest growth among Chinese billionaires, with his wealth doubling to 220 billion RMB ($30.5 billion). AI figures featured prominently, including DeepSeek’s Liang Wenfeng and OpenAI’s Sam Altman. Shanghai overtook Mumbai as Asia’s top “billionaire city,” while the U.S. and China continue to lead globally with 870 and 823 billionaires, respectively.
