China launches weight loss campaign as Ozempic searches soar

The National Health Commission announced a three-year weight management campaign on March 9, to promote healthier lifestyles. The initiative comes as interest in weight loss products rises. Data from Meituan’s pharmacy shows searches for semaglutide (marketed as Ozempic and Wegovy) jumped 180% week-on-week, while searches for tirzepatide (brand name Mounjaro) increased 150% day-on-day. Since spring began, searches for slimming products — including popular GLP-1 drugs — have doubled YoY.
