Thailand sees 5% tourism growth despite China slowdown
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) yesterday announced that Thailand is expected to welcome 3.5 million international tourists in February, marking a 5% increase compared to the same period last year. However, due to safety concerns, the number of Chinese tourists is projected to decrease by 7% to 630,000, though they will remain the largest group of overseas visitors. Despite a 30% growth of Chinese tourists during the Chinese New Year holiday, this figure fell short of TAT's earlier expectations of a 60% to 70% increase. The data highlights ongoing challenges in attracting Chinese travelers amid safety-related apprehensions.
