Chinese New Year travel seen hitting 9B trips

China’s Spring Festival travel volume is expected to reach a record high, with an estimated 9 billion trips projected between January 14 and February 22, marking a nearly 7% increase from last year. In preparation for the world’s largest annual human migration, authorities are enhancing transportation capacity, improving coordination between different modes of transport, and strengthening safety measures. Rail and air travel will see significant surges, with over 510 million rail passengers and 90 million air trips expected. Additionally, the rise in electric vehicle use will pose challenges for charging infrastructure, though the government is addressing these by expanding charging stations and deploying mobile units.
