Hermès Shanghai taps US artist EJ Hill for winter display

French luxury brand Hermès has enlisted American artist EJ Hill to design a winter-themed window display for its “Hermès House” in Shanghai. Hill, a Los Angeles-based artist known for his work in installation, painting, performance, and music, has incorporated his signature motifs, such as roller coasters and Ferris wheels, into the design. The new display also features a carousel, symbolizing the historical shift of such entertainment spaces from the aristocracy to the public. Originally a medieval equestrian training tool, the carousel became a fixture of public amusement over time. Hill’s work in the display explores the evolution of public entertainment and offers a reflection on the interplay between art, society, and history.
