Chinese travelers eye global destinations for Golden Week
Outbound travel from China is experiencing a significant boost as “Golden Week” gets underway, with travelers increasingly choosing international destinations. According to data from Fliggy, an Alibaba subsidiary, many are booking trips to popular Asia-Pacific locations such as Japan, Hong Kong, and Australia, while also showing a strong interest in long-haul destinations like Chile and Croatia. Goldman Sachs predicts a robust 62% YoY growth in outbound travel during the holiday, nearly reaching pre-pandemic levels. Travelers are planning longer trips, with an average booking of over seven days, and a noticeable shift toward multi-destination itineraries, especially in Europe. Additionally, interest in off-the-beaten-path locations is rising, as travelers seek quieter experiences and live entertainment. Despite economic challenges in China, spending during this Golden Week is expected to increase by nearly 6% YoY.
