Kans tops Douyin cosmetics sales as platform sees 27% monthly growth
In August, Douyin’s cosmetics category (skincare, makeup/perfume, haircare, body care) reached a GMV of over 19.835 billion RMB ($2.72 billion), a 22.27% YoY increase and 27.75% month-on-month growth. Seventeen of the top 20 brands achieved over 100 million RMB ($13.7 million) in GMV, with five surpassing 200 million RMB ($27.4 million). Domestic brand Kans led the skincare category with 447 million RMB ($61.4 million), followed by L’Oréal and La Mer. The top 20 brands accounted for 30.08% of skincare GMV, up from 22.56% in the previous month. Domestic brands made up 45% of the top 20, contributing 51.24% to their total GMV, though this was down 22.48 percentage points from last month. Five brands, including Guerlain and Olay, saw their GMV more than double YoY.
