Canada to impose 100% tariff on Chinese-made EVs, including Tesla

Canada has announced that it will impose a 100% tariff on electric vehicles made in China, including those produced by Tesla in China, starting from October 1. According to Reuters, Canadian government sources said that Tesla had previously contacted the Canadian government to seek similar tariff treatment to that given to EU products, but received no response. Tesla has not publicly disclosed its export data to Canada, but data shows that Model 3 and Model Y produced at its Shanghai factory have been exported to Canada. The EU took a more lenient stance on Tesla this month, imposing a 9% tariff on its Chinese-made electric vehicles, far lower than those of other Chinese electric vehicles.
