China’s cruise industry rebounds to over 50% of pre-pandemic levels
According to the Ministry of Transport, China’s cruise transportation industry has accelerated its recovery in the first half of this year. A total of 23 cruise ships operated 206 voyages, with nearly 500,000 passengers transported nationwide, recovering to more than half of the level seen in the same period in 2019. The number of passengers in the second quarter increased by nearly 60% compared to the first quarter. Currently, seven Chinese cruise companies have eight ships operating out of Tianjin, Qingdao, Shanghai, Xiamen, Shenzhen, Sanya, Fuzhou, and Guangzhou ports, servicing routes to Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Hong Kong. Additionally, over 10 foreign cruise ships have visited Chinese ports.
