In case you missed them the first time around, here are some of Jing Daily’s top posts for the week of August 6-10: Chinese Tourists Take The Gold In London Olympics Spending With their Olympic team high on the medal charts at the London 2012 Olympics, Chinese tourists are topping a different chart, outspending all other international tourists visiting the British capital during the games. According to British tourism officials, Chinese tourists have spent an average of £203.04 (US$316.36) per purchase since the Olympics opening ceremonies, beating spending by the second-most-profligate shoppers — those from the UAE — by 10 percent. As Liu Xiaoming, China’s ambassador to Britain, recently said, London has seen an influx of tourists from the Greater China region, with around 250,000 from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan making their way to the Olympic games. Broad Art Museum Hires America's First China-Based Curator In a major step for a US arts institution, the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum – which will open November 9 in a Zaha Hadid-designed building at Michigan State University, East Lansing — will bring on Beijing-based Wang Chunchen as adjunct curator. This appointment, originally arranged this past March, will make Wang the first-ever China-based curator ever taken on by an American art museum, Art in America reports this week. The Broad Art Museum will focus primarily on contemporary art, with its first acquisitions being work by the New York-based artist Andrew Kuo. Vivienne Tam Designs Limited-Edition Slippers For Hilton Huanying Program Marking the one-year anniversary of its Huanying (“Welcome”) program, which provides tailored amenities to outbound Chinese guests, today Hilton unveiled a new collaboration with fashion designer Vivienne Tam, a set of limited-edition “Water Dragon” slippers, at an event in New York. Available starting this month, complimentary for guests of Hilton Huanying and for US$28 online while supplies last, the slippers are the latest design collaboration for the prolific Tam, who has previously worked with companies like HP, Li Ning, Square, and most recently Hong Kong’s Hotel Icon. Beijing & Shanghai Craft Brewers Team Up For China's First Collaboration Beer The burgeoning craft beer scene in China, which — like the country’s nascent wine industry — continues to grow as consumers develop an interest in higher-quality food and drinks, is set to take another step this month as Beijing’s Great Leap Brewing and Shanghai’s Boxing Cat Brewery release the Yunnan Amber, China’s first-ever craft beer collaboration. Jointly developed by Great Leap brewmaster and owner, Carl Setzer, and brewmaster Michael Jordan of the Boxing Cat Brewery, Yunnan Amber is meant to reflect the particularities of Beijing and Shanghai’s independent brewing scenes as well as the flavors of native Chinese ingredients not readily available elsewhere in the world. Romeo Gigli Stages Fashion Comeback With China-Focused JOYCE Collection Always a step ahead of its competitors, the Hong Kong-based multi-brand luxury retailer JOYCE recently teamed up with a name from which we haven’t heard much in the past several years — Italian fashion designer Romeo Gigli. Renowned for its hand-picked collaborations with up-and-coming designers and established names alike, JOYCE most recently launched an online-only capsule collection with young designers such as Yang Du, Charles Frederick Worth, and Rad Hourani and hosted a pop-up shop for Alexander Wang.
