Hong Kong yacht scheme to open up Greater Bay Area routes

A cross-border solo travel scheme allowing yachts from Hong Kong and Macau to access nine mainland cities in the Greater Bay Area could launch as early as this summer, boosting the high-spending yacht economy. The policy, which follows State Council approval, would exempt vessels from guarantee requirements and enable sailing to designated ports along Guangdong-identified leisure routes. David Norton of the Hong Kong Royal Yacht Club said previous administrative hurdles had been greatly reduced. Applicants will initially be limited to Hong Kong and Macau residents with mainland travel permits, though a controlled pilot could later attract international participants.
