China EV makers post record deliveries for May

China’s electric vehicle market rebounded in May, with Zeekr and Leapmotor setting monthly delivery records as government subsidies and advanced self-driving features drew buyers. Zeekr delivered 34,377 units, up 81.8% YoY, while Leapmotor sold 81,569 EVs, up 81% YoY. Nio hit a 2026 monthly high with 37,705 deliveries, up 62.3% YoY. However, Xpeng sold 32,158 units, down 4.1% YoY, and Li Auto delivered 33,350 vehicles, down 18.4%. Analysts warned that overcapacity remains a major concern despite the rebound.
