Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com is reportedly considering a £2 billion ($2.69 billion) bid for British online retailer The Very Group, according to Sky News, marking its third attempt to acquire a major U.K. retail asset after failed pursuits of Currys and Argos. Owned by Carlyle following its takeover from the Barclay family, The Very Group operates the Very and Littlewoods brands, generates more than £2 billion in annual revenue, and serves 4.4 million customers. Analysts say an acquisition could significantly boost JD.com’s U.K. market share following the launch of its Joybuy online service. The Very Group declined to comment, while JD.com did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
