Putin and Xi meet as Russia leans on China for support
Russian President Vladimir Putin is in Beijing today for a two-day summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The visit follows US President Donald Trump’s recent trip to China, marking a rare week in which Beijing hosted both leaders back-to-back. With Moscow increasingly reliant on Beijing because of Western sanctions, energy security dominates the agenda, with the two nations poised to finalize a significant new oil and gas deal. Putin also seeks Chinese state investment to shore up Russia’s economy.
