South Korean ceramicist Jongjin Park wins 2026 Loewe Craft Prize

South Korean ceramicist Jongjin Park has won the 2026 Loewe Foundation Craft Prize for “Strata of Illusion,” a seat-like sculpture made from thousands of paper layers coated with colored porcelain slip that burns, collapses, and deforms during high-temperature firing. Established in 2016 by former creative director Jonathan Anderson, the prize received over 5,000 applications from 133 countries, with 30 works selected as finalists. Two special mentions were awarded: a tapestry by Ghana’s Baba Tree Master Weavers and Spanish designer Álvaro Catalán de Ocón, and two gold necklaces by Italian jeweler Graziano Visintin. All 30 finalists’ works are on display at Singapore’s National Gallery through June 14.
