Samsung exits mainland China home appliance market

Samsung Electronics announced on May 6 that it will cease selling all home appliance products in mainland China, including televisions, monitors, air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, and vacuum cleaners. The company will continue after-sales service for existing customers, while its mobile phone business remains unaffected. The decision reflects a cost-cutting strategy amid weak performance in Samsung's device experience division, where operating profit fell 38% YoY in Q1 2026 amid rising memory chip costs. Samsung's semiconductor business, by contrast, posted a record quarterly operating profit of 53.7 trillion won ($36.5 billion) — equivalent to 93% of the company's total.
