Nike is eliminating approximately 1,400 roles — less than 2% of its total workforce — as the sportswear giant pushes forward with its turnaround plan. Chief Operating Officer Venkatesh Alagirisamy said the cuts will primarily affect technology roles within Nike’s global operations team, citing streamlining efforts and increased automation. This marks the latest reorganization under CEO Elliott Hill, following corporate staff reductions of less than 1% last summer and around 775 layoffs at distribution centers in January. Nike employed approximately 77,800 people worldwide as of May 31, 2025. The company’s shares rose 0.5% in extended trading, though the stock has fallen 30% this year.
