Beijing Auto Expo 2026 signals China’s EV power shift

The Beijing International Automotive Exhibition opens April 24 with a record 380,000 sqm of display space across two venues, featuring 1,451 vehicles including 181 world premieres and 71 concept cars. Suppliers including CATL and autonomous driving firms now occupy prime exhibition space alongside BMW and Porsche — a notable shift from behind-the-scenes roles to center stage. The Sino-French DPCA joint venture and Hyundai’s Ioniq return after an absence, while Dreame debuts its Starlight Project. Luxury models from Mercedes-Benz and BMW will debut, while Kia and Jaguar Land Rover are notably absent. Xiaomi, Li Auto, and Huawei-backed brands are expected to draw the largest crowds.
