Hong Kong posts biggest retail gain since June 2023
Hong Kong’s retail sales by value surged 19.3% in February YoY, marking the 10th consecutive month of growth and the biggest percentage rise since June 2023, government data showed. Sales reached HK$35 billion ($4.47 billion), following a 5.5% rise in January. In volume terms, retail sales jumped 17.5%, the largest gain since March 2023. The growth was fueled by a 40.2% YoY rise in visitor arrivals to 5.14 million, with mainland Chinese visitors up 53.4% to 4.25 million. Jewelry, watches, and valuable gifts rose 24.2% YoY, while clothing and footwear increased 14.1%.
