Unilever freezes global hiring amid trade disruption

Unilever has implemented a global recruitment freeze “at all levels” for at least three months, citing macroeconomic and geopolitical pressures on global trade and energy markets, according to an internal memo reported by Reuters. The London-based consumer goods company, which employs 96,000 people, described the move as a “temporary pause on recruitment” in response to an “uncertain external environment.” The freeze adds to an ongoing cost-cutting program initiated in 2024, aimed at saving 800 million euros ($916.7 million) over three years — a restructuring that previously targeted approximately 7,500 office-based roles.
