China will implement zero-tariff treatment on all imports from 53 African countries with diplomatic ties starting May 1, 2026, deepening China–Africa economic cooperation. The policy covers all product categories and will be accompanied by expanded market access measures, including upgraded “green channels” to facilitate African exports to China. The move comes amid uncertainty over the renewal of the U.S. African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) and ongoing trade tensions between African nations and the EU. China also plans to advance negotiations on a joint economic partnership agreement with African nations.
