Beijing regulator demands H World revise user agreement

H World Group, one of the world’s largest hotel operators, was summoned by the Beijing Consumer Association on February 11 over an alleged unfair clause in its Huazhu Hui membership agreement. Regulators identified Clause 11(ii), which mandates arbitration in Shanghai and restricts consumers’ right to file lawsuits. The provision was deemed a violation of consumer protection regulations. The association demanded the clause be deleted or revised within 10 working days. H World responded the same evening, saying it “sincerely accepts” the guidance and has begun rectifying user agreements. The Shanghai-based hospitality giant operates more than 12,700 hotels across over 20 countries.
