Fast-fashion retailer H&M is withdrawing from the Nanjing market, according to recent media reports. The brand’s last remaining store in the city, located in the Aqua City shopping mall, has confirmed its impending closure. The Aqua City location, which opened in August 2008 as H&M’s first store in Nanjing, has operated for over 17 years. H&M had expanded to nine locations across the city, but all other branches have already shut down. According to its official app, H&M currently operates 158 physical stores in mainland China. The brand recently announced its largest flagship store in Asia, on Paterson Street in Hong Kong’s Causeway Bay, will cease operations on February 21.
