General Motors plans to shift production of its next-generation Buick Envision SUV from China to its Kansas plant in 2028. The decision is a response to political and tariff pressures, including Trump-era policies that increased costs of importing vehicles from China. GM will likely stop manufacturing the electric Chevrolet Bolt at the Kansas plant within 18 months, aligning with the end of the US federal $7,500 EV tax credit. The Kansas plant will then produce the gasoline-powered Buick Envision and Chevrolet Equinox, GM’s third-best-selling vehicle in the US. Buick Envision sales fell 11% last year to 42,000 units, partly due to trade restrictions.
