Canada removes 100% tariffs on Chinese EV imports
Canada will remove 100% tariffs on Chinese electric vehicle imports while China lowers duties on Canadian canola from 85% to 15% by March 1. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced the breakthrough Friday following his state visit in Beijing. Canada will cap Chinese EV imports at 49,000 units annually with a preferential 6.1% tariff rate. The deal marks a reset after years of strained ties. Chinese leader Xi Jinping hailed the “turnaround” in relations. Carney, the first Canadian leader to visit China in nearly a decade, is diversifying trade away from the U.S. amid tariff uncertainty.
