China tourism hits 142 million trips over New Year
China’s tourism market saw strong growth during the New Year holiday (January 1-3), driven by extended vacation patterns. Domestic trips reached 142 million, generating 84.79 billion RMB ($11.8 billion) in spending. Snow destinations like Harbin remained popular, while Hainan’s duty-free sales hit 2.54 billion RMB ($353 million) on January 2 alone. Cross-regional passenger trips totaled about 590 million, up 19.5% YoY. Railway trips rose 53.1% to 48.22 million. Outbound travel rebounded, with bookings spanning nearly 3,000 cities worldwide. Family and youth travel increased notably, with Gen Z bookings rising over 60%.
