British bag maker Mulberry cuts half-year loss

British luxury bag maker Mulberry reported a significant reduction in its half-year losses, even as overall revenues saw a slight dip. In the 26 weeks to September 27, the company’s pre-tax loss narrowed to 6.9 million euros ($7.4 million), a sharp improvement from the 15.7 million euros ($16.9 million) loss reported a year earlier. Group revenue declined by 4% to 53.9 million euros ($58.1 million). The standout success was its wholesale arm, where revenue jumped 36%, buoyed by new agreements with major U.K. retail partners including John Lewis, Liberty, and Harvey Nichols. However, Asia-Pacific revenue fell 17% YoY, attributed to weaker store performance and closures.
