Chinese carmakers double UK market share in Q3
Chinese automakers captured 11.8% of new car registrations in the U.K. in Q3, more than double last year’s share, according to Schmidt Automotive Research. MG leads, with Chery and BYD expanding quickly as the U.K.’s zero-tariff market fuels imports. Though all Chinese cars are currently imported, Chery and Geely are weighing local production. The BYD Dolphin Surf starts at 18,650 British pounds ($24,800). AutoTrader forecasts Chinese brands could capture 25% of the U.K. EV market by 2030, intensifying competition for domestic automakers.
