Arc’teryx collaborator faces prosecution for Tibet fireworks fiasco

Shigatse City officials released findings on October 15 from their investigation into the “Cai Guo-Qiang: Ascending Dragon” fireworks display held September 19. The event, spanning 4,670-5,020 meters above sea level, affected 30.06 hectares of grassland through 1,050 fireworks during its 52-second duration. Beijing Cai Guo-Qiang Art Studio now faces prosecution for violating the Ecological Protection Law of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, while sponsor Arc’teryx will fund ecological restoration. The investigation identified the event as “human-induced disturbance in an ecologically sensitive high-altitude area.” Multiple Gyantse County officials have been disciplined for approving the event without proper procedures.
