Chinese EV sales surge in September push

Chinese EV makers posted strong YoY growth in September as they rushed to meet targets before Golden Week. Nio, Xpeng, and Leapmotor led with increases of 64%, 95%, and 97% respectively. BYD saw a 6% decline, while Li Auto fell 36.8%. Geely Group posted 81% growth driven by its Galaxy brand. Huawei’s Hima alliance and Great Wall Motor grew 32.5% and 52.5%. Tesla China delivered approximately 55,000 vehicles domestically based on insurance data. Xiaomi reported over 40,000 units, more than triple the previous year. The surge came as automakers adjusted for the October holiday, with September 28 designated a working Sunday.
