Martin Margiela retrospective opens in Hangzhou

The retrospective exhibition “Martin Margiela: 1989-2009: The Women’s Collections” opened October 1 at the Tianmuli Space in Hangzhou, marking its first showing in Asia since debuting in Paris in 2018. The exhibition will run until February 1, 2026. Jointly presented by By Art Matters, B1ock, and Palais Galliera in Paris, the show features more than 130 looks alongside runway footage and archival materials. Widely regarded as one of the most influential contemporary designers, Margiela is known for his deconstructed aesthetic, oversized proportions, Tabi boots, and “Artisanal” line made from repurposed objects. The Hangzhou edition includes a section showcasing archival pieces from Chinese collectors.
