Solo travel surges among Chinese tourists
Solo travel is gaining momentum among Chinese tourists, with 23.5% of Chinese visitors to Japan traveling alone in Q2 2025, up from 12.2% in 2019, according to Japan’s National Tourism Organization. Since 2023, solo trips have consistently outpaced visits with spouses or partners. An American Express 2024 survey found 76% of millennials and Gen Z plan solo travel, while Grand View Research projects the global solo travel market will reach $1.07 trillion by 2030, with Asia-Pacific growing fastest at 16.1% compound annual growth rate.
