Ralph Lauren wins Polo trademark ruling in China

Ralph Lauren announced that its “Polo” trademark has been recognized as a “well-known trademark” in Class 25 apparel by the Beijing High People’s Court. The case centered on a disputed “Polo Polo Club” trademark owned by an affiliate of Guangzhou Aichi Company. The High Court upheld an earlier ruling, confirming that the disputed mark could mislead consumers, dilute the distinctiveness of the “Polo” brand, and harm Ralph Lauren’s legitimate rights. The decision follows a 2021 ruling that recognized “Ralph Lauren” as a well-known trademark. Industry experts say the judgment strengthens Ralph Lauren’s IP protection in China and provides an important judicial precedent for international luxury brands.
