French fashion brand Pimkie’s partnership with Chinese ultra-fast fashion giant Shein sparked criticism in France. The deal will see Pimkie sell globally on Shein’s platform by end-2025. Yann Rivoallan, president of the French Women’s Ready-to-Wear Federation, called the deal “shameful” and urged its cancellation. The French Trade Alliance condemned the move, citing Shein’s alleged tax avoidance, weak labor protections, and regulatory violations. Shein has been fined 190 million euros ($203.3 million) but remains France’s fourth most popular fashion brand. For Pimkie, which shrunk from 700 stores in 2018 to about 200 today, the partnership is a survival move.
