Luxury brands drop Jun Ji-hyun ads over China ‘insult’

Several luxury brands have removed advertisements starring South Korean actress Jun Ji-hyun after she “insulted” China in the TV series Tempest. As of Sunday, Louis Vuitton, Piaget, and La Mer removed Jun’s advertisements from their Sina Weibo accounts. The controversy stems from her character asking “Why does China favor war?” in episode four. Chinese netizens boycotted the spy romance series, calling the scenes defamatory toward the country. Despite not being officially available in China, clips spread online through unofficial channels, fueling viewer anger.
