China recorded 460 million border crossings between January and August 2025, up 14.9% YoY, according to the National Immigration Administration. Among them, 15.89 million foreigners entered visa-free, accounting for 62.1% of all foreign entries, a 52.1% increase. The rise reflects Beijing’s expanded visa policies. As of August 25, China had granted unilateral visa-free entry to 47 countries, reached mutual visa exemption with 29 countries, and implemented 144-hour transit visa-free policies for travelers from 55 countries. Recent measures from the Ministry of Commerce aim to boost inbound consumption by widening visa-free access and improving services.
