Xpeng starts Europe production ahead of BYD
Chinese EV maker Xpeng has started production in Europe through Austrian contract manufacturer Magna Steyr, with G6 and G9 crossovers rolling off the line in Graz. This positions Xpeng ahead of rival BYD, which plans to begin Hungary production later this year. By producing inside the EU, Xpeng bypasses the 20.7% tariff it would otherwise face. The company sold nearly 200,000 vehicles last year and exported 18,701 units in the first seven months of 2025, up 217% YoY. In Europe, it registered over 8,000 vehicles in H1 2025, 67% being its G6 crossover.
